The title says it all - chapel starts tomorrow! Did a flyer appear on your dorm room door? It's true, this may just be better than root beer. Join us and find out!
We'll be in the chapel waiting to give you your FREE flash drive (that is... if you're one of the first 100; hope you're fast!) It all goes down at 7:30 p.m.
Hope to see you there!

We hope to see you at the chapel this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Don't forget, the first 100 people get a free flash drive!

In 1999 Audio Adrenaline released the song “Hands and Feet” on their
Underdog album. Perhaps the ditty is
already playing in your mind’s radio, “…I wanna be your hands, wanna be your
feet, I will go where you send me...” If you aren’t familiar with the song,
click here for an acquaintance with what will likely be stuck in your head for
the next few days. What do you
think of when you hear these words?
Do you visualize a location, a family, a people group?

Everyone wants to feel worthwhile. The best thing we can do is to "Set your mind on things that are above and not on things that are on earth" Colossians 3:2 . One of the things I like to get my mind wrapped around it justice. God is a God of justice ( Psalm 111:7 ), so as I set my mind on things of God, I can't ignore injustices around the world.
One of the more recent injustices in the world is the starvation of people in Haiti due to the effects of the earthquake. Kids...

At Elevate #3... we learned that over 767 billion dollars is spend on entertainment each year in the US. Or about $50 a week for the average US family of 1.3 wage earners (what's a 0.3 worker look like I wonder...) In comparison, $1.00 will provide clean water for one person for a year.
The Challenge: Spend less on entertaining ourselves
I challenged everyone to figure out ways to entertain yourself for free. A complete list of...

Saw this sign in my town and had to go back to shoot a quick photo…
I’ve done a little of lent the last couple years. I’ve never been to a Fat Tuesday party or participated in an Ash Wednesday service. But there is something about the fasting part of Lent that intrigues me. It probably intrigues me because I’ve never been good at fasting. I like food – my wife is an amazing cook! Yet I know that fasting is one spiritual discipline that...

Let the games begin! The Olympics are in full swing and I'm sure you've enjoyed curling or the half-pipe or the figure skating... Maybe something. I'm always amazed at how Olympic athlete's can move. Their agility, flexibility and stability greatly enhance their ability to move. And the motions are art. I wish I could move just a fraction as well.
We're all fascinated by motion. We may not like moving ourselves. But we appreciate things that move. Good athletes....

Christmas is a time of wonder and awe for kids everywhere. They see awesome toys and wonder if they will get them for Christmas. And really for us big kids, is it any different? We see awesome things and wonder if we’ll get them for Christmas.
But all cynicism aside, Christmas time lends itself to other types of wonder as well. Things cause wonder. Things like gently falling snow or the sight of steam rising off a hot cup of cocoa. Things like the sight of the...

Need a Penny, Take a Penny, Have a Penny, Leave a Penny. You may have seen a jar or tray at the gas station with that label. They used to be every where and if you keep your eyes open you can still find them here or there. The concept was brilliant. If you’ve got a few some spare change, leave it for the next person so they don’t have to break that twenty to come up with two cents. Or if you’re the guy that rarely carries cash, like me, and doesn’t ever carry change, like me, then it’s a...

The Basics so far…
1. God wants hopeful people excited that Jesus provides a way to God.
2. God wants dependent people who desperately need God to answer prayers.
3. God wants joyful people who are ready to talk about Jesus being alive.
Hope, Dependence, Joy, Generosity and Wonder. If I discovered people marked with those characteristics, I’d want to ask how they did it. How they developed those qualities in their life. I can say that without help it’s impossible. Inside...

Marketing talks all about independence! “Have it your way!” “Need a moment” “You deserve Product X” We personalize, customize and trail blaze. We’ve been taught success comes to those willing to go out on their own and forge a new path. Our mood depends on how free we feel and where we’ve been able to take ourselves by our own strength.
Maybe we’ve been able to reject message of independence, and instead choose to be a person who plays well with others. So we collaborate with our...

People without hope die. I know that is a harsh way to start, but haven’t you seen it? Think of the last story you read or heard of a person that lost hope and took his or her own life. Hope is essential for life.
Without hope despair settles in like a fog. And the fog causes us to trip and fall. The stuff of life we’d normally navigate with ease now becomes insurmountable. A bad grade – usually I’d step right over that. My girl dumped me – usually I’d skirt...

Transforming a Region Starts in Me:
No matter where you live, there are things about the area I’m sure you wish were different. Different places to eat, different things to do, different people to talk to, different jobs to work at, a different place to live – just better. When I stop to think about the changes I’d like to see they always come back to people.
People who are better customers at the restaurant.
Owners who give better deals on...

Courage is not the absence of fear but relying on the presence of God in the middle of fear.
Fear is a tough thing. Most men try to live fearless; say they don't have any fear or never admit fear. Ladies are more tough then they've ever been; able to "just do it!" Fear is not something we like to stop and think about. We may even just call a fear something we're worried about and not really deal with the fact that we're scared to death.
But I've...

Characters Welcome is a trademark of USA Network, so yes, I’m borrowing. The USA channel’s characters are often engaging and quirky. All the things we like in an entertaining show. Now they’re not all good and this is a not a blanket endorsement of the network, but I’d like to introduce you to one of USA’s characters, Adrian Monk. As part of the show, Monk, Adrian helps the San Francisco Police Department solve some of their toughest cases. His obsessive compulsive...

Our new season for Fusion starts tomorrow night, Tuesday, August 25th at 6:00 p.m. at Southeastern Community College Room 433. It's time to start it up!
Burning Spirit is all about the fire inside us. I believe everyone has a fire burning inside them. Many are extremely passionate about sports, or music, or art, or friends. We burn brightly from the inside out when we talk about our girlfriend or boyfriend. The flame is strong when our team makes...

A guy that I read frequently - Ed Stetzer - has written a great post about Last Letters. An old military tradition, the last letter was something soldiers wrote and left behind on the dock before heading off to war. It was a chance to pass on what was important in life. A chance to explain why they were willing to sacrifice so much to fight for others freedom.
You should read his post here and the letter a missionary lady wrote before giving her life for Jesus in Iraq: ...

By now if you've been around Fusion, you've heard me talk about Don't Waste Your Life. It's a great little book that will inspire you to do what the title says.
No one wants to wake up one day and look back wondering, "Was it worth it? Did I matter?" Don't let that be you. If you like good music. Take a look at this video then go buy the track of iTunes "Don't Waste You Life" by Lacrae.

Lazy Crazy Summer Days What are your plans for the summer? When we first starting discussing all the things we weren't going to be doing this summer around Harmony Bible Church, I was a stoked. Great, I thought! More time with the family and friends. I'll get to know my neighbors and have time for hobbies again. Then the calendar started to fill. I realized I'd be teaching a Monday/Wednesday class through June. That's one third of the summer. And then two weeks in...

And we love it. But it summer time - time for new things. We'll be taking a break from meeting weekly for Fusion at SCC for the months of June, July & August. Though Fusion as you know it is taking a break - Fusion as a group is rolling into B'town for a Block Party. This summer on Wednesday...

Life on Mission I hope you've seen the picture above. If not it is a man in Tianamen Square in China who stood up to the brutal government oppression that happened in June of 1989. You can read more about him here . He is the kind of man I hope we'd all be in a situation of similar magnitude. Firm, resolute and on mission. He stood for what was right even after on June 4th, the day before, tanks had crushed men and cars all through the area. God is looking for men and...
